Clasico preview: Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona

Tomorrow’s clasico derby looks set to be full of changes. Real Madrid and Barcelona will show off tomorrow at the Bernabeu two first eleven teams full of changes. For Jose Mourinho, the league has drifted into the background as they have no chance of catching Barca and even more so after going through to the final of La Copa del Rey on Tuesday at the Camp Nou. The Portuguese coach is only thinking about Real’s next big game on Tuesday at Old Trafford.

Although the starting eleven has yet to be decided against Barcelona, Mou is convinced that at least five of the ten players that were on the field on Tuesday will be rested tomorrow: Varane, Alonso, Di Maria, Ozil and Higuain. In their places will be defender Pepe, midfielder Essien, Callejon on the wing, Kaka as playmaker and Benzema as striker.

Only three players of last Tuesday’s clash at the Camp Nou have secured their places: Diego Lopez, Arbeloa and Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s probable that Coentrao and Khedira will make the starting eleven, but Mourinho could also choose to rest these two ahead of the Old Trafford encounter.

Tomorrow’s clasico match will be a very special test for players like Kaka and Benzema. If either the Brazilian or the Frenchman has a great match against Barca, Mourinho would consider them to start against Manchester, in view of the poor performance of Higuain at both the Riazor stadium and the Camp Nou.

Just after the Cup match at the Camp Nou, Roura dropped the idea of considering a few changes in the coming matches. These two losses against Milan and Real Madrid have forced the coach to make changes in his team and look for answers.

At the San Siro and Camp Nou, Barça had only four shots on goal – a pathetic number for a team accustomed to having at least 10.

Messi, who has 37 goals in the league so far didn’t even have a shot at goal in either of the two games. There is no greater sign than this that Barca is not attacking well enough.

David Villa therefore looks set to be in the starting lineup at the Bernabeu and Messi already asked for Villa after the match against Sevilla. The Argentine said on Barca TV that it suited him having David Villa playing as a number 9 to draw the attention away from him. The other option is to come in from the left, to open up the wings. In any case, after seeing Alexis in the stands for La Copa del Rey clash, he doesn’t seem to be the key piece in the puzzle that Barcelona requires.
