Barcelona to play match for peace in Tel Aviv in July

Barca president, Sandro Rosell met up with Israeli President Simon Peres, in Tel Aviv yesterday where he confirmed that on July 31st FC Barcelona would play the “match for peace” possibly at the Ramat Gan Stadium near Tel Aviv.

Rosell also made it clear that he is optimistic ahead of Barcelona’s comeback fight against A.C Milan on 12th March. Barcelona lost 2 nil at the San Siro stadium on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 draw.

Rosell said he was optimistic about the chances of a comeback because he has every confidence in the team. Rosell also wanted to congratulate Milan on their victory over the Catalan giants and recognized that Barca have a challenge and an opportunity ahead of them.

The president of the Blaugrana club knows full well that it will not be an easy task because two goals in the Champions League is a lot of goals. He also noted that the Nou Camp would be brimming with Barcelona fans and the team would give their all.

After meeting with the Israeli President Simon Peres near Tel Aviv, Rosell will also meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the West Bank today in Ramallah. The Barcelona president confirmed that his team would be arriving on July 31st to play the “peace match” .

Barca’s rival will be the main players from the two countries in eternal conflict: a combination of players from both the Israel and Palestine national sides.

The president was told that Barcelona is the most popular team in Israel and Palestine. Rosell responded by saying that this fact made all Barcelona fans feel proud and that a game like this should be used for the benefit of peace.
