FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué is very happy with the way Barca is playing at the moment and thinks that the Catalan club could ‘win 3 trophies’ by the end of the season and extend the club’s honours by winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
“I think we are able to win all three trophies. We have ambition, enthusiasm and talent and in general, those are the ingredients we need to win. I believe we have demonstrated in La Copa del Rey, Champions League and La Liga a level that makes us think we can be champions,” said the defender in an interview with the FIFA website.
The central defender has great confidence going into the final stretch of the season. “We take each game as it comes, we train a lot and we train well. The way you train is how you play and if you end up training well, you’ll play well. This is how we face each game and our mentality doesn’t change even when we are under a lot of pressure,” he said.
Barcelona is having a great season despite having changed managers this summer and Tito Vilanova’s relapse. “Tito is doing great. He’s doing no more and no less than what Pep did. The team is performing at a superb level and hasn’t noticed the transition,” said Piqué.
The end result is that the Catalan club has a massive 16-point lead over Real Madrid. “You don’t expect it and it’s quite clear that no one expected it. Madrid came from winning last season’s La Liga and has a great team. It’s a very significant point margin, but you can never rule them out” he admits.
Gerard Piqué is in great form at the moment. “I am very proud and it’s an unforgettable time. I think it’s a reflection that things are going well, both individually and collectively. I’m fully aware that these are spells that you have to enjoy and take advantage of,” he reflected.
Barca plays Getafe on Sunday at 12:00 midday (GMT +1), which is quite unusual for Barcelona. It’s a chance to put more points on the board after last week’s 1-1 draw at La Mestalla stadium against Valencia.
