Cesc Fabregás fears for future at Barca

It was meant to be a dream come true for Cesc Fabregás by coming back to his boyhood dream of playing for Barca and it was. Guardiola put him on the pitch as soon as he touched down, leaving behind North London club Arsenal after years of not winning anything.

Things maybe turning sour for the Catalan as poor form has kept him sitting on the bench and could threaten his stay at Barcelona.Despite starting in all three games this season, Fabregás, who is upset with his under-par performances, was substituted in last Sunday’s game against Valencia after just 63 minutes. The warning signs are there and Cesc is unhappy to play cameo roles at the club of his dreams – the club he left Arsenal for.

Fabregás told Radio Marca:

“There’s no such thing as a great substitute in the world of football. “I couldn’t tell you what makes a great substitute.”
“I always wish my team-mates well and put on a happy face.”
“If I have to take my unhappy face home, then so be it. But I would never let my team-mates or manager see it.”

The ex Gunner is competing for a starting place in the centre of the pitch against the likes of Xavi, European best player of the year, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and new boy Alex Song, who’s also from Arsenal.

Fabregás continued:

“I’ve always said I play for the best team in the world.”
“But I came here to compete, to learn and enjoy, not to sit racking my brains.”
“Tito Vilanova knows what I can offer. But across the three positions I can play, I am competing with the three best players in the world.”
“I am delighted to be a part of this team. But when a coach tells me I have to go, I will go.”
“I will not make it easy for him to do so, though. I will keep going, looking forward to the time when things change.”
“I came to FC Barcelona to see out my career.”

I think it’s just a bad spell and Cesc will be ok after a few more games. It must be hard for the player who made the switch to his boyhood club of his dreams and have to compete with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta for a place. Cesc wants to retire at Barca and the midfield has just had a newcomer in the form of ex Arsenal star and close friend Alex Song. What happens now only time will tell but Barca´s midfield is getting a little too crowded for my liking and nobody likes to sit on the bench, especially when they have the talent of a player like Cesc Fabregás.
