Barca draws with Betis to end Guardiola’s last season

Catalan giants Barca found themselves struggling to snatch a draw last night against Betis at the Benito Villamarin stadium in Seville. Sergio Busquets was the one to get Guardiola’s team off the mark with a great glancing header but then an inspired Rubén Castro turned the game around for the green and whites with a brace. It was Keita who came to the rescue for the Blaugrana team in the last minute of play to seal a draw at 2-2. It was a game in which Brazilian defender Dani Alves got sent off for seeing two yellow cards in the 53rd minute. Leo Messi was also unable to add to his awesome league-record of 50 goals.

So Barca ends this season with 91 points clocked up in a game that had nothing at stake for either team. It was a game that Keita decided with a header at the far post and which shocked Betis as they thought they had this one in the bag. Under Guardiola, Barca has never beaten Betis under Pepe Mel and this was just another one of those occasions I suppose. Hats off to Ruben Castro as the lad inspired his team with two goals to stretch the visitors to the limit.

The Betis striker, who was the best of his side as per usual, scored two goals inside 4 minutes. That left Barca wondering what to do and in shock. Barca were punished by two goals and it was Pique who was left open and was overcome in the same way by both goals.

With the final whistle looming, Messi hit the post with a decent strike and Iniesta, who had been pretty much quiet throughout the game, found renewed energy in the dying moments, but still couldn’t turn things around. Finally, keita came to Barca’s rescue and headed home from a cross from Montoya to secure a 2-2 draw.

This was Pep Guardiola’s last game as Barcelona’s coach in the league. He would have loved to go out on a win but sadly it wasn’t to be. Maybe this is one of life’s coincidences. Pep has hardly ever been beaten during his four year stay at Barca and he says farewell on a draw. Pep has an incredible CV and thus ends one of the greatest footballing periods of all time. Barca will not forget him anytime soon!

Stop press! After an amazing last five minutes whereby Queens park Rangers were leading Manchester City 1-2 with just 10 men, City have turned it around and won 3-2 – and the Premier League. Amazing stuff!
