Barca demolishes Getafe and stokes up pressure on Real Madrid

Barca completely overcame a lack lustre Getafe last night at the Nou Camp to go within a point of Real Madrid. It’s just provisional of course but Real have it all to do when the meet their old enemies Athletic Madrid in their own special local derby game tonight at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

So, just a point is the distance between the leaders Real Madrid and Barcelona FC in La Liga. Pep Guardiola’s team did not fail him last night at the Camp Nou and were able to heap a little more pressure on their main rival for the La Liga title. Barça is now shadowing Real Madrid and the “merengues” can not afford another setback at the Vicente Calderon tonight.

To be honest, Barca did not need much to beat Getafe (4-0), and was not as difficult as in past occasions. With Xavi, Iniesta and Busquests in the middle of the field (all three were substitutes in Zaragoza), Barca soon found their familiar style of play.

There was no time for uncertainty as just twelve minutes into the game Iniesta tested the reflexes of Moya and after that, Alexis opened up the scoring. The Chilean was in front, found the gap and put the ball between the keeper and the post.

Without really getting into fifth gear, Barca continued to reach the penalty area with ease and it looked like Getafe had been put to sleep. It was awesome to watch!

Xavi, Alexis and Messi all had clear chances before the little Argentinian, just before the break, sentenced the game with his thirty-ninth goal in the league.

The second half was a just a formality for Barca, who put another two goals in the net but could have scored a lot more without even trying.

Alexis and Peter undertook to extend the lead when he headed culé good centers of Cuenca and Messi from the sidelines.
