Messi unstoppable against Granada

I suppose it was meant to be a walk over for Barca and although Granada managed to score 3 goals past Valdés, the Catalans came away with a convincing 5-3 scoreline from the Nou Camp.

But it was little messi who stole the show again with a superb performance and another hat-trick to his collection. Messi also made history last night by setting a new all-time scoring record of 233 goals for Barcelona. The Argentine wizard earlier equalled the all-time record, held by the legendary César Rodríguez, when he scored his 232nd goal for his club. Barca player César Rodríguez played in the 1940s and 1950s and died in 1995 aged 74.

Messi has also made history by scoring more goals for his club than the talented Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Bobby Charlton and even George Best who scored 179 goals for manchester united in 11 years.

Xavi opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock and Messi followed up on 17 minutes to equal César’s 60 year old record.

Barcelona had complete control of the match and the second half started with much of the same until Granada grabbed a goal from a free kick with Diego Mainz heading the ball home.Seven minutes later the visitors shocked the Catalans by equalizing from the penalty spot after Dan Alves was judged to have fouled Daniel Benitez.

It was 20 minutes from time when Messi restored Barca’s lead and substitute Cristian Tello made it 4-2 in the 82nd minute. Little Leo then finished off his tally of goals with a hat-trick just four minutes later, his 234th Barca goal in official matches, and in an eventful finale Alves was shown a second yellow card and dismissed for a handball in the penalty area. Granada’s Siqueira beat Valdes from the spot for a second time as his team became the first team to put three goals past the Catalan giants at the Nou Camp this season.

Barca now stand five points behind the league leaders Real Madrid who meet Villareal tonight. Villareal need the points and will be thinking of the Málaga game in which Santi Cazorla scored a late equalizer and therefore trim Real’s lead to 8 points over Barca. They can do with the points and if they manage to snatch just one they’ll be happy…..along with Barca 🙂
